Happy New Year! 2013 is a special year for Reid Middleton as we celebrate our 60th anniversary with reflection and foresight. The theme for this milestone, “Celebrating the Past – Building the Future,” summarizes our culture. Reid Middleton has a tremendous history as a consulting engineering firm and as a partner with the communities around us. At the same time, we are looking toward the future, incorporating the latest technologies, building on the ideas of our young staff, and providing great service for another 60 years!
In our industry, 60 years is an accomplishment not shared by many. The majority of firms led by dynamic founders have trouble passing on the business to the next generation of owners and leaders and either close their doors or merge with other firms. Jim Reid and LeRoy Middleton provided the leadership and vision to create an enduring company with the ability to adapt and progress as technology and the business environment change. Building on the future through strategic planning and analysis, we remain committed to staying an independent company. I’m proud to be a part of the fourth generation of leadership at Reid Middleton as we prepare for the fifth.
Our history is simple. Starting in Edmonds in 1953 as James H. Reid and Associates, the company focused on municipal engineering. LeRoy Middleton joined Jim a few years later bringing his expertise in surveying, and the firm changed its name to Reid Middleton and Associates in 1960. The company stayed in Edmonds and grew, eventually relocating to Lynnwood in 1988. In 1991, we opened our Alaska office, and in 1998 moved our main office to Everett. In August 2012, we opened a Hawaii office. Our work today extends throughout the Pacific Rim in Guam, Hawaii, Korea, Alaska, and the western states. Continuing with our core services in civil and structural engineering, surveying and planning, we work with an ever-expanding variety of private and government clients. 2013 will be a year of celebration for Reid Middleton. If you are a regular follower of our blog, you will notice that each month one post will focus on an aspect of this milestone achievement. We have many things going on this year, all of which culminate in a 60th anniversary party in September at the Future of Flight museum located on Paine Field in Everett. This fantastic venue offers a great view of the entire airport and the Boeing plant with its diversity of new aircraft preparing for delivery.
We wouldn’t be where we are today, nor tomorrow, without the support of great clients, team partners, colleagues, and even competitors that keep us working hard.
