No Growing Pains. To support Alaska’s growing healthcare needs, Providence used a fast-tracked, design-build procurement method to add three new medical office buildings, two parking garages, and two sky bridge connections. They also added a new building to provide on-site lodging for the families of recovering patients, and a new child development center. Disruption was minimized to maintain Providence’s high quality of care throughout the growth process. From adding a bunker style, shielded vault for the new, 3-floor cancer center, to providing a passenger drop-off area covered by cantilevered steel canopies, to capitalizing on the adjacent greenbelt’s scenery – establishing a healing environment that is safe, comfortable and convenient for patients and staff alike was key to each addition’s design.
