New concrete structure provides parking for 900 sailors.
Easier than parking a naval ship. The U.S. Navy needed a new parking structure for the sailors living in the adjacent Bachelor’s Enlisted Quarters housing. Reid Middleton provided civil and structural design for the 10-story, 900-stall garage. The structural system of the garage consists of reinforced concrete moment frames and shear wall, and post-tensioned concrete slabs. The parking structure also includes a large bicycle storage room and sheltered bus stop, to encourage sustainable transportation options. Site work for both the BEQ and Parking Structure included grading, a 12-inch water main, water and sanitary sewer services, and a storm drainage collection system. The stormwater system included a detention pond for flow control and a wetpond for water quality treatment.
