Obsolete buildings demolished to create new parking for sailors.
Prompt Parking
Parking structure designed and built within 16 months.
Parking? No problem. The U.S. Navy, after building a 132-room Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ) for sailors needed a new parking garage to allow access to the housing structure. Reid Middleton provided civil and structural engineering for the design of a three-story, 196-stall, post-tensioned concrete parking garage at Naval Base Kitsap (NBK). The project was performed under design-build procurement. Key features of the project include ground improvement measures (stone columns) to mitigate poor near-surface soils and an elevated pedestrian bridge connecting the new structure to an existing building. The parking structure was designed and built in 16 months.
