Wellness Warriors Initiative
Purposeful in addressing domestic violence, abuse, and neglect in the Alaska Native Community.
Nuka is an Alaska Native word used for strong, giant structures and living things. In other cultures, the word means honor, dignity, love, generosity and support. The Nuka Wellness and Learning Center seeks to represent all of these and more. The project houses the Family Wellness Warriors Initiative, research, learning circle opportunities, and the Nuka Institute. A training center, large learning circle space and group therapy rooms are located on the first floor. Varying sized therapy rooms and administrative offices are found on the second floor as well as the third floor, which also offers access to a rooftop deck. All of the spaces have natural colors, light and access to green space while incorporating traditional Native healing circles.
