Blaine newspaper creates new mixed-use building on waterfront.
Live, work, shop. The Northern Light, a newspaper located in Blaine, desired a new mixed-use building on the Blaine Harbor waterfront. Reid Middleton performed structural engineering services for the design of this three-story timber retail, office, and residential building. To maximize the amount of window area provided on the long faces of the building, interior steel braced frames were used as a lateral system in one direction. Frames remain exposed in the final design to create the architectural appearance desired.
