Seattle shakeup – helping the Emerald City recover. After the Nisqually Earthquake, the City of Seattle needed help evaluating the condition of buildings in the city – with the overall goal of maintaining public safety. Reid Middleton provided comprehensive earthquake response and recovery operations for the City of Seattle following the Nisqually Earthquake, magnitude 6.8, on February 28, 2001. Structural engineers performed and managed ATC-20 post-earthquake safety evaluations of over 1,500 buildings throughout the City and analyzed the information to identify and mitigate areas of highest risk to public safety. Reid Middleton reviewed engineering reports and coordinated follow-up inspections for change in occupancy restrictions for over 400 red- and yellow-tagged buildings. Reid Middleton also managed the emergency permitting of over 400 earthquake damage repair projects, including intake, code review, permit processing, and building inspection.
