Two foundation systems designed to keep the fire fighters safe.
Safe and Seismically-Sound. Reid Middleton provided structural engineering for two new fire stations in Cowlitz County. Fire Station 22 is a 7,550 SF fire station and Station 25 is an 8,850 SF fire station. Station 22 has a specially-designed foundation system that mitigates the liquefaction hazard for the building, ensuring that the station is functional after a major earthquake. Station 25 is located in an area with poor soils so the foundation system was designed using a reinforced earth pad with a concrete mat foundation. This system was chosen over a pile foundation system to help reduce the cost of the foundation system while still providing a station that remains functional after the next major earthquake.
