Expansion of airplane maintenance hangar keeps jets safe and ready for departure.

Expanding serviceability. Like airline passengers, Alaska Airlines increasingly focuses on minimal delays and increased safety of its aircraft and passengers. Alaska Airlines needed an updated maintenance hangar at its Oakland facility to maintain and service its expanding fleet of planes and consolidate operations. Reid Middleton designed the expansion, seismic upgrade, and tenant improvements of the existing maintenance hangar and offices to handle independent movement and repair of Boeing 737 and MD-80 aircraft. Reid Middleton also designed structural modifications to the existing fixed hangar door, and designed a new entry vestibule and elevated FAA inspectors’ offices. As a result, Alaska Airlines could more efficiently ensure the safety of its aircraft and passengers.
