Met Strategic Plan Initiative #4: Increase multi-modal mobility within connections to the community.
Access to history. The Centennial Trail celebrates the history of Snohomish County. The 2nd Street and Lincoln Avenue Traffic Signal project improved pedestrian and cyclist safety and access for the Centennial trail crossing at this main transportation corridor through the city.
Reid Middleton designed improvements to the intersection that included a traffic signal system and improved pedestrian and bicyclist safety accessing the trail and motorist safety with the traffic signal. Design features like bulb-outs and decorative crosswalks aided in traffic calming. Widening the sidewalks and adding a ten-foot-wide crosswalk decreased the overall roadway width (while maintaining the same number of lanes) and created visual separation, promoting slower and more cautious driving behavior, and reduced pedestrian’s exposure to vehicles.
