  • When Being Held Back is Good

A retaining wall that supports two homes.

Two homes, a wall, and a street. When the City of Everett widened 112th Street, it also needed to address retaining walls on residential property. Reid Middleton provided structural engineering for the design of over 200 LF of soldier pile retaining wall in support of the 112th street widening project. Because the wall was located adjacent to property lines, the wall was designed as a cantilever system with a composite cast-in-place concrete fascia. The wall also supports two homes that are each within 5 feet of the face of the wall and has heights of up to 9 feet. Reid Middleton also designed the cast in-place concrete wing walls for the 80-foot-long box culvert and designed modifications to the precast detention vault.
