To rehabilitate the fender systems at the container terminal Berths 4 & 5, Terminal 18, Port of Seattle, Reid Middleton provided engineering services which included field inspection of the damaged timber fender piling and support system to the main wharf structure, construction cost estimate, design of new fender system and development of a mitigation plan. The new design improved performance of the fender system and resolved long-term problems with crack damages. Three different types of new timber fender systems with a steel support structure replace the existing damaged ones. Reid Middleton also provided bid support and construction administration services.
