For improvements to the highly utilized San Juan Island State Park at Jones Island & Sucia Island to provide ADA accessibility, engineering design was provided by Reid Middleton. Project elements include improving ADA access to the island in the form of new floating docks, new gangway systems, regrading and resurfacing the island's trails to meet ADA requirements, new ADA compliant sleeping shelters, timber picnic shelters, an ADA complaint campsite, making the ramp to one restroom ADA compliant and an ADA compliant drinking fountain. The timber picnic shelter is 700 square feet, while the two Adirondack sleeping shelters are each 240 square feet.
These three structures where constructed from timber with exposed wood beams to blend in with the existing island structures and compliment the natural setting. The new dock and gangways are fully grated to minimize the environmental impacts of the new structures. The gangway system was specifically designed to provide ADA access to the islands at all tide elevations. Full engineering, construction documents, and cost estimating services were provided for the project along with construction administration assistance including site observations during construction.
