Traffic is a major problem in Egypt. Growing up there, I routinely saw traffic coming to a complete stop at most signalized intersections and accidents with very high severity. By contrast, a great number of high-volume intersections were controlled by roundabouts, and although congestion remained, the traffic continuously flowed through. When I first moved to Washington State, I realized that there were no roundabouts and people were not familiar with the concept. I also missed the nicely landscaped center islands!

Since graduating from the University of Washington in 2001, with a major in civil engineering, I have joined the Reid Middleton transportation team. I was amazed at the great interest and expertise the team had for roundabout design and for increasing public education and familiarity with roundabouts.  I have worked on roundabout designs, feasibility studies, roundabout illumination, and storm drainage design.  I would love to see more roundabouts in our community and we would love to design them.
