3 facilities, 1 objective: improve firefighters’ skills in safe, realistic environment.

Practice makes perfect. The City of Olympia needed a new facility to help firefighters train in a safe, realistic setting. Reid Middleton was the structural engineer for a state-of-the-art training campus that features a six-story commercial concrete fire training tower, a two-story residential fire training building, and a one-story classroom building. The commercial training tower is meant to replicate emergency response scenarios typical of large apartment structures, commercial buildings, and industrial buildings. The residential training building also houses live fire props and helps replicate emergency responses that firefighters would encounter during a typical house fire. The classroom building is a one-story wood framed structure with offices and classrooms for training firefighters. This building achieved a LEED Silver Rating.
