Accomodates Large Trucks with Ease
The roundabout easily accommodates safe, efficient passage of fire trucks.
T-Time Was Over
It was time for an existing t-intersection to go.
Saving lives and improving usability for all. The existing tee-intersection at the city entrance, marking the transition between a state route spur and the city’s commercial corridor, was hazardous and not accessible to pedestrians and bicyclists. Reid Middleton examined safety and operations to best mitigate collision history while accommodating traffic demands on this rural intersection located near a ferry dock.
A primary gateway to the City, the intersection experienced heavy usage by ferry traffic and large industrial vehicles. The city determined the best traffic control solution was a well-designed, single-lane roundabout. Reid Middleton’s design improved intersection aesthetics, making a gateway entrance to the city, and incorporating on-street parking, sidewalks, and bike lanes in the design.
