The airport needed to be fully operational by high fire season.
All the world’s a stage. When your town is home to the renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival, you want to make getting there as convenient and reliable as possible. Ashland Municipal Airport’s only runway was cracked and in need of rehabilitation and the lighting system needed updating. Because this general-aviation airport is often called on to support nearby fire suppression efforts, minimizing impacts to airport operations was key to the project’s success. The airport needed to be fully operational in late summer in case of forest fire, requiring a fast-track design schedule with little room for adjustments. Design was completed on an accelerated timeline, allowing construction to be completed just as firefighting helicopters needed access to the airport.
