Structural & Seismic Design for Hudson News Stores in the International Airports at Anchorage, Seattle, San Francisco & Los Angeles
Various Locations
Collaborating with the retail architects, port authorities, and the Hudson News Group on the development of new and upgraded store locations at large airports along the West Coast, Reid Middleton provided structural engineering and construction assistance services on nearly 24 stores, covering every major concourse at Seattle's Sea-Tac International Airport, six stores at Los Angeles' LAX, two stores in Anchorage, and one store at San Francisco's SFO. Design elements included light-gauge stud framing, sign supports, equipment supports, sliding door tracks, wood trellis frames, seismic restraints, and structural steel framing. All designs were carefully coordinated to ensure the structure seamlessly supported the architectural intent, while avoiding interference with airport operations during construction.
In addition to Hudson News stores, Reid Middleton has provided tenant improvement design services for a variety of other airport retail clients including locally-themed gift shops, a variety of fast food, deli and restaurant locations, and currency exchange and service operations. Structural design and review services have also been provided for a verity of airport advertising projects, including multiple signage and monitor installation projects for Clear Channel and Alaska Airlines.
