Federal Way, WA
The structural design of a seismic retrofit for a two story, three apparatus bay, fire station that was constructed in 1964 was performed by Reid Middleton. The station is constructed with masonry walls and woof framed floors and roof. The seismic upgrade included adding new shear walls and strengthening floor and roof diaphragms. The station remained occupied during construction, structural improvements were designed to minimize the disruption to the building occupants.
