Constructed in 1894, the Carnegie Library is a significant piece of history for the City of Everett and Snohomish County. Snohomish County is restoring this unique historic building as part of an effort to make it a safer work place for county employees. Reid Middleton performed a seismic study, overall building assessment, and cost estimate for this 2-story, 54,985 square-foot, unreinforced masonry building. This effort also strategized ways to divide recommended seismic improvements into self-contained projects that could fit within small annualized budgets. In the summer of 2009, the building was reroofed and seismic and structural enhancements required for the roof and attic framing were performed while the framing was accessible.
