The Delta Airlines Sky club Expansion at Sea-Tac International Airport was provided with structural engineering by Reid Middleton. The sky club is a 11,000 square-foot expansion, situated on the existing roof of the South Satellite. The expansion included strengthening existing beams and columns, new steel roof framing and adding framing to support a new elevator. Since the project is located on the existing roof, Reid Middleton worked closely with the architect and airport building department to limit the required live load rating of the club space to mostly work within the capacity of the existing framing, this effort reduced the amount of upgrades that were required helping to reduce construction costs. Reid Middleton also completed a structural feasibility report prior to the start of the design phase.
