Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport Seismic Upgrade
Anchorage, AK
Reid Middleton provided the seismic evaluation and structural engineering for the $150 million upgrades to the 348,000-square-foot south terminal at Anchorage International Airport. State-of-the-art performance-based design methodologies were employed for the six buildings comprising the airport terminal. The four pre-1970's concrete wall and frame buildings and the two 1980's steel moment frame buildings were seismically upgraded using techniques such as braced frames, concrete shear walls, and fiberwrap composite strengthening.
Need
Provide a level of seismic performance in line with current requirements for critical facilities.
Result
Six terminal buildings totaling 348,000 square feet, seismically upgraded to better withstand earthquake forces.
